It’s time again for the Illinois Heartland Library System’s annual Library Crawl. People who participate in the Crawl visit as many libraries as they can during October, getting their “passports” stamped as they go. Individual libraries often offer small gifts to those who visit, with a larger prize to someone from their own library. The Worden Library will be awarding a $25 gift certificate from Books-A-Million in Edwardsville to one of our participating patrons. We will also be giving out gift boxes to everyone who gets involved. When the first Crawl was started by the Bethalto Public Library District in 2019, 28 libraries participated. This year, 158 libraries, including Worden, Staunton, and Edwardsville, will be part of the Crawl, which lasts from October 1 to October 31. If you would like to participate, visit your local library, obtain a passport with a list of all the libraries in this year’s Crawl, and start traveling around the Illinois Heartland Library System. Bring your passport back to your library when you’re finished. Last year, our library had 39 visitors, including one from Catlin, Illinois, near Champaign.
We will also have a Halloween Children’s Program at the library on Saturday, October 21, at 10:00 a.m. There will be a Halloween story or two, along with a related craft to take home. Each young person who attends will be given a Halloween bag with prizes and treats. These bags are sizable enough to be used when trick-or-treating. Children are welcome to come in costume. Gift items for this year’s Library Crawl, as well as the Halloween Program, were paid for through a generous grant from Thrivent, a Lutheran charity.
