A perfect way to end a work week is by watching all the different versions of ourselves, enjoying the moment of others being young during a picture-perfect Homecoming parade and day.
The Homecoming parade signifies the end of the week and the end of Homecoming. However, the smiles and enjoyment would've lead one to believe that it was just starting.
It was a beautiful day on Sept. 22, especially when the sun finally showed itself late into the morning. As the time for the parade approached, residents of Staunton, parents, relatives, and even pets were standing attentively on the sidewalks of Main Street.
Kicking off the parade, the Staunton Police and Fire Departments made their way down Main Street, followed by the queen candidates, color guard and marching band, and sports' teams.
Overall, It's a day to remember the emotions and memories that Homecoming week provided for all of us, either good or bad. Either way, Homecoming is a rare and small amount of time of our lives, yet it can weigh so heavily on our minds and lives in a multitude of ways.
The atmosphere at school and amongst friends is much more relaxed and the school work is typically more sparse than normal. Even so, it can be easy to take for granted and because it's hard to register time in years while in high school. It can be a time in life where the expression, "time flies when you're having fun.", applies for all four years of high school. There are numerous groups of individuals that are responsible for all the activities that were planned for homecoming.
Gratitude and appreciation should be given to all the teachers and school staff for having the patience and overall desire to participate in an event such as Homecoming week; the student council for creating the themes of the spirit days throughout the week, as well as putting on the once-in-a-lifetime experience, the powderpuff game; and to the parents that had to deal with any last-minute scrambling for spirit day costumes throughout the week: we all know there was at least one child and/or young adult out there that procrastinated.
