Upcoming Bremer Sanctuary Fall events

The annual Owl Prowl and Weiner Roast will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 4-7 p.m. The fire-pit will be ready at 4 p.m. so bring your own hot dogs, buns, drinks, and a dish or two to share.

The Tree House Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will provide an informative program featuring two to three owls on display beginning at 5 p.m. and will release a rehabilitated owl at the sanctuary at 6 p.m.

Beginning at dusk (approximately 6:15 - 6:30 p.m.), owl calls will be broadcast throughout the West Prairie to lure a response and/or sighting. Educational displays will be set up for viewing and door prizes will be awarded. Bring your own lawn chairs and bug spray.

Native Seed Collecting Workshop is on Oct. 15, 1 - 3 p.m. (During the Open House Event).

Join us for an educational program on collecting native wildflower seeds. Participants will learn when and what to collect, how to store seeds and when to plant them.

We will begin with an informative video presentation regarding the importance of prairie restoration. Followed by a guided hike into our prairies to collect seeds for use at Bremer late this fall.

Since the public is not allowed to collect seeds at our sanctuary, we are making an exception this day and allowing you to take home part of your harvest to start your own pollinator garden.

Things to bring: garden gloves, strong scissors or clippers, bucket and water bottle. Wear long pants, sturdy shoes and apply bug spray. 194 Bremer Lane Hillsboro, IL 62049.

Sponsored by the Illinois Audubon Society.
