In Judiciary, the first reading was given for Ordinance #2219 a Pre-Annexation Agreement with Robert L. Hormel III and Suzann J.P. Hormel regarding property located at 16136 VFW Road but not physically annexing the property to the city’s corporate boundaries at this time.

The council waived the first reading and approved Ordinance #2220 a charity roadblock by the Elbon Shrine Club to conduct its Newspaper Drive at the intersection of Main Street and Route 4 and Main Street and Union Street on Oct. 7, 2023.

The city council approved Resolution #2023-24 appointing Terry Tipler Mayor Pro-Tem for the city of Staunton. Mr. Tipler will serve in the absence of the mayor in fulfillment of the mayoral duties. At all meetings in which he is serving as Mayor Pro-Term, he will have the powers of a presiding officer; the right to conduct all such meetings; and to vote only in the capacity of as alderman on any ordinance, resolution, or motion.

The city council approved Resolution #2023-25 declaring Trick-Or-Treat days and hours in Staunton. Trick-or-Treat days and hours are Monday, Oct. 30 from dusk to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 31 from dusk to 9 p.m.

Those present for the meeting were Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, Aldermen Ryan Machota, David Dias, Terry Tipler, Kristy Berg, and Matthew McKee. Alderman David Manning and City Attorney Phil Lading were absent. The next city council meeting will be on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at 7 p.m.
