4-H Shooting Sports Multi-County Shoot held at Brittany Shooting Park

On Sunday, Aug. 27, 4-H Shooting Sports members participated in the 9th annual 4-H Fall Classic at Brittany Shooting Park in Bunker Hill. 4-H members from the Jersey, Macoupin, and Montgomery Counties competed in the shooting disciplines of archery, air rifle, .22 rifle, and shotgun. This shooting sports competition hit the mark for great weather, family fun, friends, and marksmanship.

The Fall Classic provided the opportunity for youth to enchance their shooting skills and build self-confidence. At the conclusion of each discipline, a recognition ceremoney was held where top members were awarded based on their scores.

Local 4-H members from Macoupin County who participated in the 2023 4-H Shooting Sports Fall Classic were as follows:

Maris Brill of Gillespie; Isaac Hudson, Owen Hudson, and Ella Hudson of Mount Olive; Cooper Kahl, Abbigail Jarden, and Hunter Haworth of Bunker Hill; Aaron Mayfield and Abigail Mayfield of Livingston; David Girardin and Colton Mayfield of Staunton.

The local finalists from their age division at the 2023 4-H Fall Classic were as follows:

Archery: Isaac Hudson of Mount Olive;

Air rifle: Abigail Mayfield and Aaron Mayfield.

Dedicated volunteers who made this event a success were certified instructors and volunteers from Macoupin County: Jenny and John Dugan, Tony Wagner, Greg Behme, Chad Dugger, Katie Mayfield, and Mark Koskie.

The event was held at Brittany Shooting Park in Bunker Hill. They have been supporters of the Ill. 4-H Shooting Sports since it started in Macoupin County in 2011. They have a great venue where youth can practice their shooting skills in a safe and conducive environment. Top awards were sponsored by Jerry Clevenger.

The Ill. 4-H Shooting Sports program promotes the highesst standard of safety, sportsmanship, and ethical behaviors. The program helps young people develop self-confidence, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and decision-making skills while furnishing enjoyable, positive relationships with peers and adult instructors.
