Bulldogs avoid shut out at Vandalia

The Staunton High School football Bulldogs avoided another shut-out with a third quarter TD.

The Bulldogs traveled to Vandalia for a conference game on Friday, Sept. 1. Both teams had lost their opening game so both were looking for their first win

The Vandals scored in the first quarter and held the 7 - 0 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs were not going to be stopped this time. They came back to score their own TD in the third period when Dalton Bianco completed a pass to Braden Buffington good for 32 yards and a Bulldog TD. Ethan Tew successfully kicked the PAT giving Staunton their 7 points. Unfortunately, the Vandals also scored, adding 6 points in the third period and then added another 8 in the 4th to claim the final 21-7 win.

Bianco completed 6 passes, good for a total of 81 yards and 1 TD. Receivers were Trace Trettenero, 1 for 2; Braden Buffington, 3 for 72 yards and a TD; Drake Rose, 1 for 4 yards; and Dan Blotevogel, 1 for 3.

Rushing yardage was led by Buffington, 52 yards in 2 carries; Trace Trettenero, 43 yards in 14 carries; Drake Rose gained a total of 34 yards in 8 carries; Cody Kapp made 31 yards in 1 carry; Dalton Bianco added 7 yards and Jessie Baker 8.

On defense, leading the Bulldogs with multiple tackles/assists were Khiry Taylor 5/0, Thomas Scroggins 4/3, Jordan Snider 4/2, Braden Buffington 4/0; Nate Oller 3/1; Drake Rose 2/3; Raymond Gray 2/2; and Sean Fleming 2/0.

This Friday, Sept. 8, the Bulldogs will be at home vs Hillsboro.
