Ronald “Ron” Leonard Windau, 61, of Springfield, Ill., died on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on Aug. 14, 1961, in Staunton, to Leonard August and Sandra Lee (Jung) Windau.
He was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He worked in sales with his father at James Machinery in Springfield for over 40 years. Ron was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved traveling, especially his most recent trip to Pearl Harbor. He was also an airplane enthusiast, especially of Boeing models.
Ron is survived by his mother, Sandra Windau, of Springfield; twin sister, Rhonda Lee Windau of Springfield; three aunts, Irma Machuga, Elaine Milcic, and Myra (Paul) Poeling of Staunton; two uncles, Marvin (Jean) Windau of Staunton, and Maynard (Gladys, deceased) Windau of New Douglas; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and one aunt, Betty (Roy) Emrich.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 20, at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, with Rev. Jonathan Sharp officiating. A private burial took place on Monday, Aug. 21, at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
