Harold N. Heigert, 93, of Staunton, Ill.,, died Saturday, July 8, 2023, at his residence in Staunton. He was born March 28, 1930, in Staunton, the son of the late Benjamin and Frances (Dietz) Heigert. He married Loretta Mlekush on Sept. 27, 1958, in Vandalia, and she survives.
Harold was employed as a supervisor at Granite City Steel in Granite City for over 30 years, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton and Staunton Knights of Columbus #2197. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and helping Tom farm.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Heigert of Staunton; three children, Valerie Moore of Springfield, Diane (Rick) Coronado of McLeansboro, and Thomas (Laura) Heigert of Staunton; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Thomas) Schofield of Mt. Olive, Jessica Rodgers of Springfield, Chris (Brenna) Coronado of McLeansboro; one great-grandchild, Haley Shryock of Springfield; one sister, Lorraine Heigert of Staunton; and several nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Heigert; a sister-in-law, Doris Heigert; and a nephew, Kenneth Heigert.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton, with Rev. Thomas Hagstrom officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
Memorials are suggested to either Hospice of Southern Illinois, Adopt-A-Pet of Benld, or to St. Michael's Old Catholic Cemetery in Staunton. Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton was in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left online at http://www.williamsonfh.com.
