Summer Fest dunking booth

The 34th running of the Tour De Donut in Staunton will be held this Saturday, July 8.

Registration is online only, and we hope you have all done that by now since there is no race day registration. Free camping with showers is available for all participants at the park on Friday night.

A few basics – the race is 34 miles long and sign-in begins at 7 a.m. at Staunton Recreation Park. The race will start promptly at 9 a.m. The ever popular “Donut Hole” ride is 12 miles and will also start at 9 a.m.

Fleet Feet RFID Automated Timing will be in effect. Race Support (SAG) will be provided by The Cyclery from Edwardsville and The Bike Surgeon from O’Fallon.

A free event T-shirt will be given to every participant who registered prior to June 15. T-shirts will be given to riders who were late registering but only while supplies last.

Two very basic rules - no exceptions. You must be 13 to ride without an adult. Every rider must wear a helmet for the event.

The start line is in Staunton’s Recreation Park at the corner of E. Pennsylvania and Ash streets.

Yes, there are prizes. First-, second- and third-place medals will be awarded in each age category. There will be cash prizes for most doughnuts eaten by men and by women. Four brand-new bikes will be awarded as attendance prizes by drawing from all participants. The Golden Helmet is awarded to the participant who travels from the farthest distance to participate in the Staunton ride.

Volunteers are on the roads. For weeks, Sullivan Drugs has been recruiting volunteers to help control traffic, keep riders safe on the route, and provide assistance where needed. Please be kind to the volunteers who are there to help.

We also ask residents to be aware of all the riders. Some are new to our area so be sure you are courteous and helpful whenever possible as we all try to stay out of everyone’s way. A little common courtesy goes a long way to making everyone’s day a lot more fun. Remember - it’s only one day a year – so let’s make it fun for everyone involved.
