Lewis and Clark Community College is inviting the entire community to campus for an all-new take on Summerfest, from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, July 13.
The event is in its third year as a recruitment opportunity for potential students, but the college has revamped it to include food and fun for visitors of all ages to highlight the programs and services that benefit not only students, but also the general public.
"A community college is for the entire community," Recruiter Daniel Nosce said. "We want to see everyone out at Summerfest – mom, dad, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts – everyone. We'll have food trucks and cooling stations, a rock-climbing wall, petting zoo, face painting, a caricaturist and more. We want to make this the event of the summer."
Summerfest is free and open to the public, and will take place between the Enrollment Center and Fobes Hall on the college's Godfrey Campus. All attendees will take home L&C giveaways, while supplies last, and get the chance to have their photo taken with L&C's mascot, Blazer the Newfie.
Cooling stations by Shiver's, Bunkhouse Joe and Illinois American Water will help keep visitors cool, and L&C's College for Life program will open classrooms in nearby Fobes Hall for craft activities in a temperature-controlled space.
Ray's Soul Touching Tacos and Big Boy Q food trucks will be on site, with food available to purchase.
Anyone interested in the college's educational offerings can get information on everything from college-level transfer programs and short-term degrees and certificates to Illinois High School Diploma preparation, personal enrichment (just for fun) courses, College for Kids, workforce and safety training and more (https://www.lc.edu/academic-programs/index.html).
Enrollment Center and Financial Aid staff will be on hand to help incoming students with those processes. Express registration will also be available on site – please bring a photo ID and most recent transcripts to participate.
Several local non-profits will also have informational tables at the event.
