by Kelly Costa The city of Staunton is preparing for 2023 road mainte- nance by accepting proposals for the necessary materials for street and road upkeep during the city council meeting held
Monday night.
Proposals from Beelman Lo-
gistics were approved to furnish materials for road maintenance in the amounts of $38,891 and $18,795. A proposal was also accepted from Illiana Construc- tion Company to furnish materi- als for road maintenance in the amount of $101,500.
Plus, a quote was approved from Woody’s Municipal Sup- ply Co. for a hydraulic upfit for a 2020 Chevrolet 4500 dump truck in the amount of $9,404.
In other business, an email was received from Ben Clark, representing the Staunton Fire Department, requesting to close Park Lane, Luker Street and Bell Street on Sunday, June 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. to allevi-ate congestion at the end of the homecoming parade. The council approved the request.
City Treasurer Cindy Pirok gave the following report:
Certificates of Deposit were recently cashed in at Bank of Hillsboro: Civic Improvement Fund $75,000 plus $902.32 interest; General Fund $150,000 plus $1,804.66 interest; Infra- structure Fund $100,000 plus $1,203.10 interest; Sewer Fund $175,000 plus $2,105.42 inter- est; Telecommunications Fund $200,000 plus $2,406.20 inter- est; Water Fund $100,000 plus $1,203.10 interest.
Certificates of Deposit were recently purchased at Bank of Hillsboro for five months at 4.13 percent interest: Infrastructure Fund $350,000; Civic Improve- ment Fund $250,000; Reserve Fund $200,000; Telecommuni-cations Fund $100,000; Water Fund $100,000.

Quotes were approved from Illini Tech Services for a new custom Dell PowerEdge server for the police department for $8,159 and a PowerEdge T150 server for the city clerk’s office at a cost of $7,659.
The council agreed to hire Cole Sternickle as a part-time park and recreation department employee.
Three pre-annextion agree- ments were approved with: Ja- cob R. Hillis at 132 W. Sixteenth Street; Eric and Courtney Lo- renz at 9183 Lakewood Drive; Billy J. Patton at 19430 Streeb Lane. The three properties are not physically annexing to the city's corporate boundaries at this time.
A resolution approving a plat of survey located in the zoning, planning and development juris- diction of the City of Staunton was adopted. It allows for sub- dividing the property of John and Bobbi Fisher for possible future sale.
Those present for the meeting were Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, aldermen Ryan Machota, Da- vid Dias, Terry Tipler, Kristy Berg, and Matthew McKee. City Attorney Phil Lading and alderman David Manning were absent. The next city council meeting will be on Monday, June 26, at 7 p.m.
