Staunton Senior Citizens met

The June 1 meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. by president, Gerri Cook. There were 20 members present. The Lord's Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance were said. There were no visitors or new members.

Margaret Heimemeyer is in Barnes hospital in St. Louis for surgery on a broken leg. If anyone wishes to send a card, they can send it to her home for when she gets back. No other card requests were made.

Gerri reminded everyone that the yearly election will be on July 6 and to let an officer know if she or he would like to throw in their hat. The elections will be held at the Aug. 3 meeting. Anyone attending our lunch at the next meeting date, June 15, and hasn't paid for their ticket needs to pay for it today. There will be food for 31 people ordered. Set up for the June 15 meeting and luncheon will be at 10:30. Dennis Williams is to pick up food. Judy Hampton went over the menu again. Leslie Vannoy told us there is a state program for seniors to get reduced license plates for $10. Check with Illinois Valley for qualifying criteria.

Attendance prizes were awarded to Dennis Williams and Myron Hoftstetler. Myron Hofstetler and Marilyn Willows won the pots of silver. Toni Janus commented to make a correction to the May 4 minutes that the next meeting should have read May 18 instead of June 1. The meeting was then adjourned and the members enjoyed playing bingo which was called by Leslie Vannoy, the Regional Administrator of The Glenwood Assisted Living Facilities.

The next meeting of the Staunton Senior Citizens Group will be held on June 15. People are asked to arrive around 11:30 to purchase bingo cards since we will be eating at 12 noon. The meeting will then start at 1 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ at 225 S. Laurel Street in Staunton.
