Thursday, November 20, 1975 -- RETIRED FIRE CHIEF HONORED FOR SERVICE -- On Saturday evening, November 8, the Staunton Volunteer Fire Department held their annual Dinner-Dance Awards night. It was this night that the volunteer firemen and city council paid tribute to Carl Stemploski who after 15 years as fire chief retired this past April. Don Kasubke, president of the department, presented Carl with an inscribed plaque which read: "In appreciation to Carl Stemploski for 15 years of service and dedication as Fire Chief - From the Staunton Volunteer Firemen." Lowell Lovejoy, current Fire Chief, then presented Carl with his old Chief's badge which he wished him to keep as a memento of his years as chief.
Mayor Russ Masinelli was the last presenter as he presented Carl with a plaque "from the City Council and citizens of Staunton." The job of fire chief is a very time consuming and sometimes thankless job and the citizens of Staunton as well as the fire department can be very grateful for Carl's years of service in this capacity. Also receiving awards at the Dinner-Dance were Carl Zuber, Jim Sullivan and Carl Stemploski who each received their 25-year pin signifying 25 years of active service to the department. They also should be congratulated for their years of donated service to the city.
