The Staunton Junior High track team had 10 athletes compete at the 2023 Class 3A/4A State Track and field meet in East Peoria May 19 and 20.
On Friday, Lacie Edwards competed in the 100m dash, made it to the finals, and won 7th overall to receive a state medal with a time of 13.36. Braylen Brown competed in the long jump with a PR of 18'8" in his first jump. He finished 6th overall to receive his state medal.
Jace Spickerman competed in the 1600m run. This 6th grader took 17th place overall with a time of 5:18. On Saturday, Chloe Jones, Alyssa Delong, Lainey Weller, and Kaliana Buehler competed in the 4x100m relay. This 7th grade team placed 13th overall with a time of 56.18. Anna Machota, Lydia Larosa, Ryenne Dugger, and Lacie Edwards competed in the 4x100m relay as well. The 8th grade girls finished 10th overall with a time of 54.22.
