Published in the Interest of the Staunton Community for Over 143 Years
The Staunton men's track team competed at the IHSA Class 1A Regional at Gillespie on May 18. Of the 18 teams entered, Staunton placed 9th with 28.75 team points. Auburn was first with 91 team points.
The 4x100 relay team of Michael Matesa, Ethan Rantanen, Trace Trettenero and Braden Buffington won 2nd place in the their event and have qualified to advance to State Prelims at Eastern.
The 4x200 relay team of Michael Matesa, Ethan Rantanen, Trace Trettenero and Braden Buffington also placed 2nd and are State qualifiers advancing to the Prelims at Eastern.
While not advancing to State Prelims, the 4x800 relay team of Trevor Myers, Broc Best, Dylan Jarden and Ethan Tew finished 10th.
Other Staunton competitors who finished in the top 10 of their event included the following.
100 meters - Trace Trettenero placed 5th. Trace also placed 7th in the 200 meters event.
Nicholas Monahan placed 7th in the 3200 meters.
Braden Buffington placed 5th in the 300m hurdles. Braden also placed 7th in the long jump.
Michael Matesa placed 5th in the triple jump.
Victor Buehler placed 5th in the high jump event.
