During Monday night’s city council meeting, the property at 104 E. Main Street and 108 E. Main Street was declared as surplus real property and authorized for sale at a minimum bid of $10,000. All the structures on the property must be demolished and removed by the winning bidder within 60 days of the bid award. Bids will be opened at the June 26 council
meeting.
The council received a letter of resignation from full-time police dispatcher Tammy Martin dated May 12, 2023. Martin will be retiring and her last day of employment will be May 26, 2023.
The council received an email from Staunton Unit Schools asking to use the Fireman’s Park on Wednesday, May 24, for an end-of-school event and asked for the park rental fee to be waived. The requests were approved.
City Clerk Dennis Steigemeier announced that Richard Coyne brought in a letter that he sent to Illinois Department of Natural Resources along with several pictures that he has taken regarding his concerns with an abandoned mine site near his property.
In Public Health and Safety, the council agreed to pay in- voices from Leon Uniform Company for ballistic vests for police officers in the amount of $5,664.
In Park and Civic Improve- ment, the council voted to purchase new frames and wood for picnic tables at city-owned parks with a cost not to exceed $6,000. They also decided to purchase new locks for build- ings at city-owned parks, with a cost not to exceed $1,200.
The city council will donate $1,000 to the Staunton Fire Department to assist them with expenses for the upcoming Homecoming Celebration.
In Finance and Claims, the council agreed to pay an invoice from Fehr Graham for professional services rendered regarding the North Street force main project for $2,804.
The council voted to pay an invoice from Sandberg Phoenix for professional services ren- dered regarding special projectsfor $1,459.21.
In Utilities and Water, a quote was approved from Microcomm for computer replacement at the water treatment plant in the amount of $14,935.10. The council agreed to pay an invoice from Utility Service Co., Inc. for annual maintenance on the elevated water tower for $24,638.71.
In Tourism, the city council voted to close the following streets on Sunday, June 25, from 7 to 11:59 p.m. for the upcoming fireworks display: Ash from Pennsylvania to Montgomery and Montgomery from Ash to Luker.
In Judiciary, an ordinance was approved granting a zoning variance to Craig Hannig to construct a garage on his property main project for $2,804.
The council voted to pay an invoice from Sandberg Phoenix for professional services ren- dered regarding special projects for $1,459.21.

The first reading was given for three pre-annexation agreements: Jacob R. Hillis at 132 W. 16th Street; Eric and Courtney Lorenz at 9183 Lakewood Drive; Billy J. Patton at 19430 Streeb Lane, but not physically annexing the properties to the city’s corporate boundaries at this time.
Those present for the meeting were Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, aldermen Ryan Machota, David Manning, Terry Tipler, Kristy Berg and Matthew McKee. Alderman David Dias and City Attorney Phil Lading attended electronically. The next city council meeting will be on Monday, June 12, at 7 p.m.
