Staunton Township voted to provide $20,000 toward the replacement of a bridge in Dorchester Township. The bridge crosses Cahokia Creek and is used by Staunton School District buses.

Frieda Lotter Scherer (90) of St. James, Mo., formerly of Mt Olive, died May 4 at St. James.

Violet Gilleland (47) of Williamson died May 4 at Cave In Rock.

Victoria Cavallo (76) of Gillespie died May 4 at her residence.

Mary Weidler (83) of Mt. Olive died May 5 at Doctor’s Hospital in Springfield.

Melton Kelso (51) of East Alton died May 8 at Christian Hospital Northeast.

Ralph Sides (83) of Mt. Olive died May 6 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Caroline Zippay (90) of Mt. Olive died May 7 at Litchfield Health Care Center.

Orval Huggins (94) of Mt. Olive died May 10 at his residence.

Darin Opel of Worden caught a 92 lb. 8 oz. bighead carp on the Mississippi river. The fish is a possible world record.

Staunton Township donated $20,000 toward an outdoor siren to update the city’s emergency system.

A daughter was born to Jeremy and Elizabeth Foiles of Plainview on May 6.

Leticia Tevini and Christopher Dugger were married on Nov. 17, 2007, in Staunton.
