7th Grade Terriers are second in State

The Staunton 7th grade Lady Terriers volleyball team has won 2nd place in the State of Illinois.

After winning their sectional title, the girls traveled to Warrensburg - Latham for 3A State tournament competition.

In their first round on Friday evening, March 10, the Lady Terriers defeated Peru Parkside in two sets, 25-18 and 25-16.

This win advanced the girls to the 3A semifinals. In the semi -final round, Staunton was able to defeat Pleasant Plains in two sets - 25-18 and 25-19. The win over Pleasant Plains advanced the Terriers into the championship round where they would face Eureka.

Eureka won the first set 25-14. In the second set, Eureka had a narrow 19-17 lead when they went on a 6-1 run to win the set 25-18 and claim the 3A Illinois championship.

The Staunton girls' service points were by: Kaliana Buehler, 6 service points (with a pair of aces); Brianna Johnson, 5; Alysssa Delong, 3; Kadyn Legendre, 2; Addy Monolo and Lainey Weller had one each.

The 7th grade team ended their season with possession of the Illinois State 2nd place trophy and a 27-2 overall season record.
