Joy M. (Fraker) Mishanec, 88, of Staunton, Ill., died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Aspen Creek of Troy, Ill. She was born March 21, 1934, in Forks, Wash., the daughter of the late Eugene V. and Ora A. (Crippen) Fraker. She married Joseph A. Mishanec on March 20, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, and he survives.
She was an L.D. high school teacher in Staunton for over 20 years. She achieved her Masters Degree in Education. Joy served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, working in photography. Besides her family, Joy’s passions included working in her yard planting flowers, reading, and animals. She and Joe ran a charity golf event benefitting Adopt-A-Pet of Benld for 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Mishanec of Staunton; children, Steve Mishanec, Jeff (Kathy) Mishanec, Cathy (Larry) Cimarolli; grandchildren, Nicole Dautenhahn, Rachael Mishanec, Autumn Haas, Dustin Cimarolli, Dalton Cimarolli, Mateo Cimarolli, Michelle Colburn, Matt Colburn; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Melvin (Sharla) Fraker, Margie Faulkner, Janice Thomas; and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, Joe E. Mishanec; one granddaughter, Ashley Haas; and one brother, Don Fraker.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
