Streeb convicted of murder; gets 40-year prison term

Blake Streeb, age 30, of Mt. Olive, was sentenced on Friday to 40 years in prison for first-de- gree murder in connection with a fatal beating on Aug. 7, 2022. Streeb will be required to serve 100 percent of the sentence.

Streeb attacked Michael Raey, age 25, inside a home in Granite City. Reay died on Aug. 10 from the injuries he received during the attack.

Streeb told investigators he was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time, but recalled becoming angry after suspecting that Reay, who used a wheelchair, was pretend- ing to need his wheelchair.

“This was a ruthless, unpro- voked attack that was fueled by drugs and inflicted upon a vic- tim who was nearly incapable of defending himself,” Madison County State's Attorney Tom Haine said. “This conviction and sentence ensure that the public will be safe from this perpetrator’s violence. The fam- ily and loved ones of Michael have experienced unimaginable suffering, but we hope the reso- lution of this case allows them to have some closure.”

Haine commended the efforts of the Madison County Sher- iff’s Office, Granite City Police Department, Assistant State’s Attorney Lauren Maricle, who is chief of the Violent Crimes Unit, and Assistant State’s At- torney Mike Stewart.“Their thorough and zealous work re- sulted in this swift disposition,” Haine said.
