Nov. 7-10 - The Staunton Terriers had a successful week, as both grade levels swept all three games on the schedule. The week began with a road game on Nov. 7 at Bunker Hill. The 8th graders played very well in a 39-16 victory. Isiah Laux (12 pts.) and Luke Moore (10 pts.) posted double figures for SJHS, while Owen Looney (7 pts.), Lucas Dillon (6 pts.), Ty Simpson (2 pts.), and Owen Rizzi (2 pts.) rounded out the scoring. The 7th grade team locked down defensively, allowing just one bucket in each half in a 30-4 win. Paxton Brown paced the attack with 10 points, and he was aided in the scoring column by Cale Dugger (6 pts.), Kaiden Linkeman (5 pts.), Blaine Sievers (4 pts.), Aiden Saracco (2 pts.), Wolfie Rantanen (2 pts.), and Chase Foster (1 pt.).
The Terriers headed to Bethalto Trimpe on Nov. 9 to take on the Eagles. The 8th graders played excellent defense in a 38-10 victory. Owen Looney was lights out in the first half, posting 15 of his 16 points to lead the team in scoring. Laux (7 pts.), Jeremiah Graham (6 pts.), Moore (3 pts.), Dillon, Lucas Coalson, and Peyton Luketich (2 pts. each) also entered the scoring column for SJHS. The 7th graders fell behind at the half but stormed back to win an exciting game by the score of 24-23. Saracco (9 pts.), Brown (6 pts.), Dugger (5 pts.), Linkeman (2 pts.), and Xander Clark (2 pts.) all contributed scoring to the winning team.
After four straight road games, the Terriers hosted North Mac in the home opener on Nov. 10. Moore (13 pts.) posted double figures for the Terriers, while Dillon (9 pts.), Laux (9 pts.), Graham (6 pts.), Looney (4 pts.), Luketich (2 pts.), and Coalson (1 pt.) aided the attack. The 7th grade team played another exciting game, eventually emerging in overtime for a 33-30 victory. Dugger, Saracco, and Linkeman each popped in 8 points for the team, while Brown (6 pts.) and Clark (3 pts.) rounded out the scoring.
Other than a home game against Calhoun (Nov. 15), the 8th graders are idle next week due to the 7th grade Gillespie Tournament. Staunton played on Saturday (Nov. 12), and will return to action either Monday or Wednesday this week and again on Friday (Nov. 18) to wrap up tourney action.
