Bulldogs lose final game of season

The Staunton Bulldog football team traveled to North Mac for their final game of the season on Friday Oct. 21. The North Mac Panthers won this game 32 - 6.

There was no scoring in the first quarter. However, in the opening minute of the 2nd period, North Mac scored an 8-yard rushing TD and added the PAT to take the 7-0 lead.

Still in the 2nd quarter, Staunton punted, giving North Mac the ball on their own 37-yard line. The Panthers rushed for their 2nd TD and kicked the PAT to take the 14-0 lead. Later, North Mac had turned the ball over on downs giving Staunton possession when the Panthers intercepted a Bulldog pass giving the ball back to North Mac on the Staunton 14-yard line. North Mac scored on an 8-yard rush TD. Their try for the 2-point conversion failed but North Mac now led 20-0 and that would be the halftime score.

With about 8 minutes left in the third period North Mac scored a 46-yard rushing TD. The 2-point conversion attempt failed but they had stretched their lead to 26-0. Early in the 4th quarter, the Panthers scored on a 36-yard rushing TD, missed the PAT but led 32-0. With under a minute left in the game, Cody Ury completed a pass to Zack Painter good for a Bulldogs TD. The PAT failed and the game ended with the Panthers leading 32-6.

Cody Ury completed 15 passes good for a total of 153 yards and 1 TD. Bulldog receivers were: Braden Buffington, 6 for 72 yards; Drake Rose 4 for 19; Jacob Dillon 4 for 49 yards, and Zack Painter 1 for 13 yards and a TD.

Leading ground gainer for the Bulldogs was Trace Trettenero who gained 50 yards in 5 carries. Drake Rose gained 35 yards in 10 carries; Cody Ury and Jacob Dillon both added 1 yard rushing.

Braden Buffington punted 12 times for Staunton, averaging 31.3 yards.

Zack Painter led in solo tackles with 4 and 4 assists. Andy Dustman had 4 solo/3 assists; Cole Sternickle and Jacob Dillon both had 4 solo/1 assist. Dylan Jarden and Jordan Snider both had 3 solo and 7 assists and Reece Girth had 2 solo/8 assists. Other Bulldogs with solo/assists were B. Buffington 2/2, Ryan Gaines 2/3. Cole Aberle 1/1; Tommy Campbell 1/1. Dalton Bianco, Greg Knop and Dane Crisler each had 1 solo.
