The city of Staunton is in the early planning stages of developing a new community park on East Mill Street. The 50-foot by 119-foot lot is the former location of the Baby Bull tavern. The city condemned the building, and it has since been razed.
The city is pursuing a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. If the city is successful in obtaining the Open Space Land Acquisition grant, it will be used for construction of playground equipment, a family pavilion and a parking area.
A public hearing was held on the matter on Sept. 19 and the necessary paperwork is expected to be filed around Sept. 30.
