Ellis

Rodney E. Ellis, 73, of Benld, Ill., died at his residence on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He was born Oct. 5, 1948, in Brewton, Ala., to William E. and Corine Borders Ellis. He married Janet J. Knowles on Jan. 19, 1973, in Brewton, Ala., and she survives.

He was a laborer for Dial Corp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He was a coin, gun and lighter collector.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Ellis of Benld; children, William Ellis of Benld, Shawn Ellis of Gillespie, James Ellis of Gillespie, Jonathan Ellis of Gillespie, Elizabeth Ellis of Benld, Christopher Ellis of Gillespie; grandchildren, Caleb, Annabelle, Noah, Aiden, Aleigha, Bently, Ashley, Austin; siblings, Gene Ellis, Brenda Ellis Bedsole. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amanda Ellis; and siblings, William "Mann" Ellis, Kay Ellis Langston, Christy Ellis.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Aug. 6, at First Baptist Church in Gillespie.
