Jane Hutton has found a unique way to support the SHHC by bringing in Birthday Kits each month. Each kit contains the items needed to bake and celebrate a birthday.
Staunton Helping Hands Center board members received a $2,000 grant from the Selma J. Hartke Foundation. This grant will be used to expand building space for the GED program. Pictured (L to R) are Tony Banovz, Lori Semanik, Ailee Taylor and Don Thorn.
Robert Semanik volunteers faithfully at the Staunton Helping Hands Center and he is able to turn in his volunteer hours for matching grant funds from Phillips 66. Robert completes enough hours for multiple grants per year and is still able to do so as a retired employee. The SHHC is appreciative to both Robert and Phillips 66. This donation was for $1,842.
Brittnie Hanks (L to R), Lori Semanik and Jo Michelle Hanks work together to make the SHHC Kids Summer Food Program available to families in the Staunton School District. Recently, a Saturday collection took place to receive items for the program. The Kids Summer Food Program focuses on families that qualify for the free or reduced lunch program and supplements them with a bag of full-size, kid-friendly food per week.
Summer is typically a slow month for donations at the Staunton Helping Hands Center (SHHC) but July has been a great month with a lot of community support.
Donations were received this month from: Rich Fiori, Wanda Watson, Merry Callovini, Lynn Neuhaus, Kathleen Benda, Jane Hutton, Susan Miller, GCS Credit Union, Storm 8U Baseball, and the Staunton Country Club Women's Golf League. Grants received this month were from: Phillips 66 and the Selma J. Hartke Community Foundation.Donations were also received from the following churches: The Assembly, St. Michael's Church, and Zion Lutheran Church. Donations received as memorials were: In loving memory of Alvera Conroy from Karen Frey, Kim Knoche, Gary & Nancy Goldasich, and Richard & Regina Garbin.
Shelves start to get slender this time of year and donations are continually needed. Monetary donations are especially helpful since the SHHC can source food for as low as .19 cents a pound (making every dollar stretch very far). Donations can be received during pantry hours, on Venmo @stauntonhelpinghands or via mail to P.O. Box 111, Staunton IL 62088.
The center is open on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at 219 W. Main in Staunton.
