Wayman

Gilbert Ray Wayman, 73, of Staunton, Ill., died at his residence on Saturday, July 9, 2022. He was born on Aug. 7, 1948, in Carlinville, a son of Gilbert and Gladys (Scoggins) Wayman. He married Anita Helm on Nov. 26, 1966, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton, and she survives.

He was retired as Chief Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force, 1978-2000. He was a union carpenter with Local #725 in Litchfield. He worked as a civil engineer supervisor at General Services Administration in St. Louis, Mo., from 1982 to 2008. He was a lifetime member of Staunton Masonic Lodge #177 A.F. & A.M. ( 32 Degree Mason). He was a lifetime member and past Post Commander of Staunton VFW Post # 1241.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Wayman of Staunton; daughter, Anissa Dequasie of Staunton; granddaughters, Raygan Wayman-Crider, Kennedy Crider, Mckinley Dequasie, Haryson Wayman; two brothers, Charlie (Margaret) Wayman of Gillespie, Dwayne (Brenda) Wayman of Litchfield; three sisters, Garnetta Hooker of Dallas, Texas, Brenda Tovo of Olney, Malinda (John) Napier of Olney. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Chapman, Edith Betherd; a brother, Leonard Wayman; and nephew, George Chapman Jr.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 15, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be conducted by family and friends on Friday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo., at a later date.
