Sharon Kay Simon, 72, of New Douglas, Ill., died on Sun- day, June 19, 2022, at her residence. She was born on Thursday, Jan. 19, 1950, in Highland. Sharon was the daughter of Irvin L. and Irene E. (Zeller) Leitschuh. She married Joseph A. Simon on May 19, 1984, at the United Church of
Christ in Grantfork.
A life-long resident of the rural
New Douglas area, she graduated from the Highland High School in 1968. Sharon last worked as the head checker for the Super Valu Food Store in Greenville. She had previously worked as a bookkeeper-payroll-supply clerk for Houseman Supply in High- land and also as a receptionist for Rehberger Chiropractic in Highland. She was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Unions.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Simon; chil- dren, Kristopher Plog, Sarah (nee Plog) Hartke, Andrew (Amanda) Simon, and Michael Simon (Re- becca Fromme); grandchildren, Elijah Hartke, Joshua Hartke, Ella Simon, Emma Simon. Though she is an only child, she is also survived by countless cousins whom she loved as brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sharon's family will host a celebration of life on Friday, June 24, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the New Douglas Community Center in New Douglas.
