Summer is nearly here! The library is gearing up for its in person Summer Reading Program. The first four Thursdays in June are Kid’s Day. We will have two different Story Time classes for age groups 3 years up to 10 years of age.
Sessions are 30 minutes up to an hour depending on the age of the child. The theme this year is Read Beyond the Beaten Path. Everyone is very excited to have families back in the library since this is the first time in two years we have been able to return to indoor programming.
There are over 6,000 children’s items in the children’s library at your fingertips. We buy titles for this room every month from pre-k up to juvenile titles. The library is also busy adding in the new aisle awarded nominated books for this year. Monarch, Blue Stem and Caudill titles can be found in the children’s library, each with its title on the spine label. If you need assistance finding a good children’s book, please stop at the circulation desk and ask for assistance.
Summer is the time to kick back a bit, enjoy the sunshine, read a good book or a million good books. It is also a great time to catch up on DVDs you might have missed during the school year. The library just ordered The Batman, Turning Red, Coming to America 2, Dog, Licorice Pizza, Unchartered, Death on the Nile, Cyrano, Spiderman: No Way Home, Belfast, West Side Story, and American Underdog. Some of these movies are here already!
There is also a great selection of DVDs in our collection. If nonfiction is your thing, the library has some of the latest– Unthinkable by Jamie Raskin, Bone Deep (the Betsy Faria Story) by C. Bosworth, Hello Molly by Molly Shannon, Get Back by the Beatles, The Storyteller by Dave Grohl, Vanderbilt by Anderson Cooper, The Boys by Ron Howard, Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown, Finding Me by Viola Davis, Out of the Corner by Jennifer Grey and Untamed by Glennon Doyle to name a small sample. The library has these titles and much more at the Staunton Public Library.
