Staunton girls at Class 1A Sectional Bekeske qualified for State

The Staunton girls track team was one of 17 teams competing in the IHSA Class 1A TRG Sectional Meet held Thursday, May 12, in Gillespie. Litchfield had the strongest showing with 99 team points followed by Virden with 69 points. The Staunton girls won 19 team points.

Grace Bekeske had a great day both as a member of relay teams and in individual events. However, it was her performance in the triple jump that earned her a ticket to state competition on May 19-21 at O’Brien Stadium in Charleston. Grace placed 2nd with her jump of 9.34m, a personal best for the freshman.

Sarah Wright was 15th in the 800 meters and Lexi Hester placed 7th in the 1600 meters.

Sam Schnefke was 11th in the 300m hurdles.

The relay team of Lilly Trettenero, Grace Bekeske, Claire Baima and Gianna Bianco placed 6th in the 4x100, 4th in the 4x200 and 5th in the 4x400.

Lexi Pfeiffer, Sarah Wright, Sam Schnefke and Lexi Hester placed 4th in the 4x800 relay.

In field events - Brianna Hainaut was 12th in shot put. Gianna Bianco tied for 7-8th and Grace Bekeske was 9th in the high jump. Bekeske placed 2nd in the triple jump and Trettenero placed 7th in the pole vault.
