Softball girls add 3 wins

The Lady Bulldog softball team traveled to Carlinville on Monday, May 9, and defeated the Lady Cavaliers 5-0.

Staunton scored 2 runs in the first, added 1 in the 5th plus 2 in the 7th for their 5 run total.

Staunton runs were scored by Whitney Weller (2), Kylie Lucykow, Savannah Billings, and Taylor Nolan (1 ea.).

Ele Feldmann and Nolan were leading hitters with 3 hits/1 RBI each. Billings had 2 hits with 1 being a home run and 1 RBI. Koral Keehner had 1 hit and 1 RBI. Weller also had 2 hits and Lucykow had 1.

S. Billings pitched all 7 innings. Facing 29 batters, she struck out 2, walked 5, gave up 4 hits and 0 runs.

On Wednesday, May 11, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Greenfield/Northwestern. They won this game 16-1 in just 4 innings.

Greenfield/Northwestern scored one run in the first inning but that would be the end of their scoring. Staunton scored 3 in the first, 7 in the second and 6 in the 4th to end the game (16-1) in 4 innings on the 10-run rule.

Staunton runs were scored by Lucykow and Weller (3 ea.), Troeckler, Korryn Keehner and Koral Keehner (2 ea.), Frank, Feldmann, Bandy, Nolan (1 ea.).

Nolan had 2 hits including a home run and had 5 RBIs. Koral Keehner also had 2 hits including a home run and 1 RBI. Also hitting for extra bases, Bandy had 2 hits including a triple and 2 RBIs. Other hits/RBIs were by Lucykow 3/1, Troeckler 3/0, Frank 1/3, Weller 2/1, Korryn Keehner 1/1.

Gianna Bianco pitched 4 innings, faced 16 batters, struck out 5, walked none, gave up 5 hits and 1 earned run.

On May 12, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Bunker Hill 19-0 in a 4-inning game. Staunton scored 3 in the first, 4 in the 2nd and 12 in the 3rd to get their 19 runs while holding Bunker Hill scoreless in the shutout.

Staunton runs were scored by Weller 4, Lucykow and Billings 3 ea., Frank Nolan, and Koral Keehner 2 ea., Feldmann, Bandy, and Taylor Seelbach, 1 ea.

Billings had 2 hits including a home run and 3 RBIs. Other hits/RBIs were by Koral Keehner 2/2, Seelbach 1/2, Frank, Feldmann, and Weller, 2/1, Lucykow, Bandy, and Nolan 1/1.

Billings pitched 1 inning and struck out 3 batters. Feldmann pitched 3 innings, struck out 6, walked 2, gave up 2 hits and 0 runs.

The win brought their season record to 16-3 overall, 7-1 in conference. The Softball Bulldogs were scheduled to play their first playoff game Wednesday, May 18, at Vandalia. They will be playing the winner of the Greenville vs. Litchfield game played Monday, May 16.
