Softball girls win at Hillsboro

The Lady Bulldog softball team defeated the Lady Hiltoppers in Hillsboro on Monday, May 2.

Staunton runs were scored by Kylie Lucykow (2), Lilly Troeckler (2), Ele Feldmann (2), Taylor Nolan (2), Samantha Anderson, Whitney Weller, Savannah Bilings and Koral Keehner, 1 each.

Keehner had 2 hits, one of which was a home run and 2 RBIs. Billings and Troeckler were the leading hitters with 3 each including 2 doubles by Billings with 1 RBI and a triple by Troeckler with 3 RBIs. Evin Frank and Feldmann each had 2 hits including a double, good for 1 RBI each. Other hits were by Lucykow, Bandy, Weller and Nolan, 1 ea.

Gianna Bianco pitched the entire game for Staunton. In 7 innings, she struck out 10, walked none, gave up 6 hits and 5 runs (4 earned).

On Wednesday, May 4, the Lady Bulldogs lost to the Lady Miners 0-12 at Gillespie.

Gillespie scored 3 in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 6th ending the game 12-0 in six innings.

Staunton had a total of 5 hits, 1 each by Frank, Weller, Billings, Nolan, and Koral Keehner.

Taylor Nolan started for Staunton. She pitched 1.1 innings, faced 11 batters, struck out 2, walked 1 and gave up 5 hits and 7 runs. Billings pitched 4.2 innings, faced 21 batters, struck out 1, walked none, gave up 5 hits and 5 runs (1 earned).

After the Gillespie game, Staunton's season record was 13-3. This week, they were to play at Carlinville May 9, then home vs. Northwestern May 11 and home vs. Bunker Hill May 12.
