Gaither

John M. “Red” Gaither, 60, of Mt. Olive, Ill., died at his residence on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Born Oct. 4, 1961, in Alton, he was a son of Carol (Bennett) Gaither and the late James H. Gaither.

He worked as a tool grinder at Ackrit Inc., in St. Ann, Mo., for many years. John was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Edwardsville where he played drums in the contemporary church band. He liked hot rods and watching NHRA drag racing. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and riding his Harley-Davidson.

He is survived by his son, John (Emily) Gaither of Edwardsville; his daughter, Molly Gaither of Edwardsville; fiancé, Lisa Henson of Worden; mother, Carol Gaither of Staunton; brother, Tim Gaither of Mt. Olive; sister, Anne (Justin) Crites of Staunton; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 3, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Graveside services followed at Worden City Cemetery in Worden with Rev. Michael Walther officiating.
