Track meet held in Staunton

The Staunton High School track team hosted the Staunton Invitational Meet on Friday, April 15th with eight teams participating.

Men’s Division

Virden won first place in the men’s division with 174 team points. Staunton placed 3rd with 75 team points.

Staunton men had top ten finishes in the following events:

100 Meters- 5th Ethan Rantanen and 6th Jacob Dillon; 200 Meters - 5th Colin Mullenix and 10th Coby McDonald; 400 Meters - 5th Michael Matesa and 10th Anthony Sansone.

In the distance events, 1600 Meters - 4th Thomas Ogata, 5th Nicholas Monahan; and 3200 Meters - 3rd Broc Best and 5th Trey Luketich.

Drake Dufrain won 2nd in the 110m Hurdles, 4th in the 300m Hurdles and also took 5th in the triple jump..

Stauntons 4 x 100 relay team Dufrain, Rantanen, Mullenix and Braden Buffinton placed 3rd; 4 x 200 team Mullenix, Ryan Strebel, Zach Mathis and Jacob Dillon placed 2nd; 4 x 400 Strebel, Rantanen, Dylan Jarden and Dillon placed 4th; 4 x 800 team Monahan, Jarden, Damion Tew, Ogata placed 3rd.

Joseph Cisler placed 5th in the shot put. Joe Goss placed 7th in the shot put and 8th in the discus.

Thomas Ogata was 2nd and Ryan Stebel was 4th in the high jump event. Michael Matesa placed 5th in the pole vault.

Women’s Division

Murphysboro won the women’s division with a team score of 157. Staunton placed 5th with 44 points. Staunton points came in the following events.

Claire Baima was 10th in the 100 meters; Sam Schnefke was 5th and Lexi Pfeiffer 7th in the 800 Meters. Schnefke also placed 7th in the 300 m Hurdles.

Staunton’s 4 x 100 relay team of Brianna Hainaut, Grace Bekeske, Claire Baima and Gianna Bianco placed 3rd; the 4 x 400 team Bekeske, Pfeiffer, Baima and Bianco placed 3rd.

Gianna Bianco won first place in the high jump (1.45m) and Bekeske tied for 2nd in the same event (1.37m). Brianna Hainaut was 9th in the long jump. Bekeske and Bianco placed 2nd and 3rd in the triple jump.
