The Staunton High School baseball team had a busy week with three games played and one washout.
On April 4, the Bulldogs lost to Carlinville 9 -12. Staunton held a 1 run lead (7-6) until the 6th when Carlinville rallied with 3 runs and then added another 3 in the 7th.
Staunton runs were scored by Cayden Silvester 3, Adam Overby 2, Sam Best 2, Cody Ury 1, and Dillon Pritchett 1. RBIs were credited to Silvester 3, Matthew Sievers 2, Overby, Luke Meyer and Cole Sternickle 1 each.
Pitching for Staunton, Brady Gillen pitched 1 inning giving up 3 runs on 3 hits. Sam Best pitched 2 innings, struck out 4, walked 3, gave up 3 runs on 3 hits; and Luke Meyer pitched 4 innings, struck out 4, walked 1, gave up 6 runs on 7 hits.
On April 7, the Bulldogs lost to Father McGivney Catholic (Edwardsville) by a score of 2-12. Staunton runs were scored by Pritchett and Sievers. Pitching duties were shared by Grant Neuhaus and Pritchett.
On April 9, the Bulldogs returned to the win column by defeating Roxana 7-6 in extra innings. This game was all tied up at 4 each in the 5th when Staunton added 2 in the 6th. Roxana came right back to score 2 in the 7th to tie the score again. In the 8th inning, the Bulldogs scored 1 run and managed to hold the Shells scoreless to claim the win.
Staunton runs were scored by Overby 2, Silvester 2, Preston Denny 1, Gillen 1, and Cody Ury 1. RBIs were credited to Ury 2, and Overby 1.
This week, the Bulldogs were scheduled to play Pana 4/12, and Civic Memorial (Bethalto) 4/16.
Next week, they play at Vandalia 4/19 and at EA/WR 4/20.
