Silvester on All-Star Team
The Staunton High School Basketball Bulldogs competed in the Macoupin County Tournament Jan. 17-21.
In their first round of competition, the Bulldogs defeated Mt. Olive 33-28.
In other games Monday, Carlinville narrowly defeated Bunker Hill 42-41 and Piasa SW defeated Gillespie 43-22.
In the second round on Wednesday, Jan 19, North Mac defeated Carlinville 32-20 and Southwestern defeated Staunton 38-34; advancing North Mac and Southwestern to the championship game and putting Staunton in the 3rd place game vs. Carlinville.
The Southwestern Hawks would win the county championship and Carlinville won 3rd place by defeating Staunton 51-40.
Cayden Silvester of Staunton was named to the Macoupin County All-Star Team along with Carson Cooley of Southwestern, J.T. Alexander and Mark Downs of North Mac and Grant Burch of Bunker Hill.
The Bulldogs were scheduled to play: Jan. 24, home vs. Carlinville; Jan. 25, home vs. Litchfield; Jan. 28 home vs. Pana; Jan. 29 at Lincolnwood; and Feb. 1 at Mt. Olive; Feb. 2 home vs. Calhoun; and Feb. 4 at Vandalia.
