Michael Johnson announced his candidacy for mayor of Staunton.
Senator Vince Demuzio took the oath of office last week for another term as State Senator from Illinois 49th Senate District.
State Representative Gary Hannig was sworn in on Jan. 8. He is the elected representative from the 98th District.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Greg Birk on Jan. 15.
Dawn M. Rae (25) of Staunton died Jan. 17 as the result of an automobile accident near Hamel.
Dewayne R. “Wayne” Metz of Dorsey died Jan. 15 at his home.
Hazel A. Loeh (83) of Staunton died Jan. 14 at Community Memorial Hospital.
Rev. Lorne Fleming Piercey (92) of Hazen, Ark., died Jan. 13 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Little Rock.
Ruth Mae Voyles Nation (81) of East Alton, formerly of White City, died Jan. 18 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

The Staunton School Board decided that they will join the Prairie State Conference in 2009-10. SHS has been in the South Central Conference since 1926.
A Staunton couple’s car was involved in a crash on Jan. 13 when another person’s keys fit their car’s ignition. Michael Whited’s car was mistaken for Stephen Hoffman’s car, and when the keys worked, he drove it away and became involved in a car accident.
Billy Adler resigned as director of Staunton Area Ambulance Service to take a new job in Florida.
A daughter was born to Danette Shook and Michael Wallace of Staunton on Jan. 17.
A daughter was born to Jeana Walker and Rodney Leggett of Staunton on Dec. 27, 2006.
Ashley Goodman and Kyle Masinelli were married on Oct. 14, 2006, in Mt. Olive.
