Library Happenings by Julie Jarman

January 2022 - It is coming in like a polar bear! There might even be a chance for some snow as I write this article the first week of the year. As the weather turns colder, there is nothing better than a nice warm blanket, a cup of hot tea and a good book in your favorite comfortable chair. This is where the Staunton Public Library comes in. Another year brings more opportunities for great books to hit the market. Each month we order some of the hottest and best loved authors plus a few new ones that pique our interest. Last month we ordered new material from James Patterson, Ben Coes, Tracy Petersen, Dana Stabenow, and Charles Todd, just to name a few. New movies such as Dune, Spencer, the Last Duel, Clifford the Big Red Dog and No Time to Die will also be joining the collection soon. Please come in and check out some of these hot titles or hunt the stacks for a new author you have not tried before. There are so many great choices. The library can also order titles from different libraries via the library delivery system if you have a library card. I have been finding new authors through the good reads app lately and yet to be disappointed. Stop by someday, or call us for a sought after book title. Chances are we have it here or we can get it through another library.

Grab Bags

Our January grab bags for the younger ones are now available while supplies last at the front desk.

We love stuffing color sheets and art projects for everyone to enjoy.

Winter Wellness Day

The Staunton Public Library was asked to be a part of Winter Wellness Day out at the Net Church – Saturday, Jan. 22, from 11 to 1 – We will have a table there promoting all the fun things we provide.

There will be other wonderful organizations and vendors there as well showing off all that Staunton offers. I hope to see you all there.

New App

One big thing that is happening in library land is the new Share Mobile Library App. With your library card, you will be able to browse new books, search content and place holds all from one spot. This is all brought to you by your library and the SHARE Library consortium (a division of Illinois Heartland Library System).

Last year also brought some wonderful movies and book titles for all of us to enjoy.

As I pulled the stats from 2021- the most checked out book in our collection was The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. If you have not read this yet, I encourage you to check it out and see what you think.

One last thing – the last 12 months have brought some wonderful but also tough memories. I am so glad I was surrounded by so many stories. It kept my mind off things for a while and gave me hope for the future. Life is better with a good book in your hands.

We are still encouraging masks inside the library.

Please stop by and see us all soon!
