Personnel matters were on the agenda at the Staunton City Council meeting held on Monday night at the community center.
The council gave approval to hire Tonya Whaley as full-time city clerk's office administrative assistant/zoning administrator. Approval was given for water plant employee Ed Rothgangel to carry over 40 hours of vacation time. The city will also advertise for a new water plant employee.
A request from the Zion Lutheran Church Men’s Club was granted to make the following streets one way on Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for their annual sausage supper: Wood from Henry to Spring; Union from Henry to Spring; Hoxsey from Spring to Panhorst. Henry Street will be closed from Wood to Union.
City Clerk Dennis Steigemeier reported that at this time, the city has three licensed residential trash haulers: Robert Sanders Waste Systems, DC Waste and Recycling, and Republic Services, Inc. Flowers Sanitation sold out to Republic Services. Also, Waste Management has not submitted their application and fee.
The maintenance contract from Esri, Inc. for software maintenance for $400 was renewed with a start date of March 1 and an end date of Feb. 28, 2023.
First readings were given of several ordinances regarding pre-annexation agreements, none of which are physically annexing property to the city's corporate boundaries at this time. The agreements are with: Ryan and Maria Gusewelle at 1425 W. Sixth Street; Jeffrey M. Banks and Eileen M. Snow at 20267 Tall Timber Road; James and Sharon Trettenero at 9450 Schaefer Road; James and Sandra Baker at 9426 Schaefer Road; and Dave Delaurent and Adrianne Karl at 9337 Schaefer Road.
The collector's report included the following:
M&M Service Co. - Sievers Farm Income $11,442.55;
MJM Electric Cooperative - Utility tax $221.47;
Staunton Police Dept - Ordinance violations $100; Reports $15;
Staunton Area Ambulance Service - December dispatch fee $500.
Claims included expenditures of $28,578.04; payroll of $62,394.79; and manual checks totalling $232.17.
Those present for the meeting were Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, aldermen Rick Johnson, Chad Plenske, Randy Hanks, John Moore, Ryan Machota, David Manning, and David Dias. Alderman Jeff Scanzoni, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, and City Attorney Phil Lading attended electronically. Treasurer Cindy Pirok was absent. The next city council meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m.
