Issue of Dec. 26, 1996

There was a string of burglaries from vehicles in Staunton on Dec. 14 and 15 between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. During that time an estimated 40 cars were opened by three juveniles from the Alton area. The 1992 Pontiac belonging to Kenny Heigert was stolen by the same three and was later recovered in East Alton.

Fern M. Kreyling (78) of Mt. Olive died Dec. 20 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.

Issue of Dec. 27, 2006

The New Life Christian Fellowship building and two apartments in Hamel were destroyed by a fire at about 1 a.m. Dec. 20.
