Bremer Sanctuary has decided it is time to resume some of its regular public offerings and will start 2022 with a walk on New Year’s Day. They will meet at the barn at 11 a.m.
Traditionally, the walk follows the Timber Trail through the woodlands away from any prevailing winds. The trail has been maintained throughout the fall, clearing any large fallen limbs. That is not to say there will be dry walking all along the way.
Participants are urged to dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and consider rain gear if needed.
A variety of wildlife should be seen, mostly birds, with a colony of redheaded woodpeckers still in the eastern section of the trail. Resident bluebirds are frequently heard and seen.
The walk normally lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, traversing down Pipeline Trail to the new low-water bridge. You will note extensive new clearing to the west of the bridge which resulted from the clearing of the west firebreak. The walk will then turn uphill toward observation tower #1 and then on to the barn. A soup and sandwich luncheon and a warm fire will greet participants there. If you wish to bring a dish to share, consider the soup/sandwich option.
Bundle up and join the stewards to once again ring in the new year in the great outdoors.
Bremer Sanctuary is located one-half mile north of the Montgomery County courthouse. The grounds are open year around dawn to dusk. Parking is plentiful near the barn.
