The Staunton boys’ soccer team started week two of the season with a 2-1 record and high hopes to keep a good thing going. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs faced some adversity throughout the week in the form of injury, COVID quarantines, and unavoidable commitments which forced a few players to miss games. Coming off the loss against Springfield Lutheran on Saturday at the Route 66 Kickoff Classic in Carlinville, the team’s first misfortune was losing senior striker and co-captain Ashton Copeland, who had suffered a mysterious leg injury at the end...
The Staunton High School boys golf team defeated Greenville 158 - 184 in a match at Timber Lakes on Monday, Aug. 29. Preston Denney was match medalist with his round of 35 on the par 36 course. It was a wonderful day for golfing for the Staunton Country Club Women's Thursday Golf League. The low gross was the team of Sue Stiegemeier and Linda Rohe. Southwestern came to Staunton and defeated the Bulldogs 26 - 14 in the opening game of the 2022 season. To kick off the season, the Bulldogs welcomed the Carlyle Indians on Thursday. The two opponents had not met in two years due to COVID, with the Indians getting the better of the Bulldogs last time. The Staunton High School varsity volleyball Bulldogs opened their season on the road playing in the Springfield Lutheran Tourney on Aug. 26. They won their neutral tournament match against Springfield by a score of 2-0. It was a great day for golfing for the Staunton Country Club Ladies Golf League. The low gross was the team of Sue Stiegemeier, Martha Riley and Barb Augustine. They had a 39 and also low putts of 10. There was a tie for the low net between the teams of Karen Crosslin, Bev Kramer and Rosemarie Pickerill and Linda Rohe with a 20. The Staunton/Bunker Hill Football Bulldogs have been busy preparing for their upcoming 2022 season. The first game of the year will be on Friday, Aug. 26, at home vs. the Southwestern Piasa Birds. The 24th Dorchester co-rec kittenball tournaments opened Friday with the Anti Buffalo Skins defeating Buffalo Skins 9-8 in the Kidds game.
