Staunton lost their Homecoming game to Carlinville 34 - 21 Friday night, Sept. 23. But - the Bulldogs gave their fans an exciting come back game after going down 21 points. A completed pass to Cody Kapp followed by a Jacob Dillon run gave them a first & 10 on the 24. But a holding penalty put them back to 2nd & 20 when Carlinville intercepted a Bulldog pass. After a loss to Breese Mater Dei on Sept. 13, the Lady Bulldogs got back on their winning streak, winning at Pana and at Vandalia. Staunton defeated the Pana Panthers 2-0 in sets of 25-12 and 25-13 on Sept. 15. Haris Legendre led the team in kills with 17; Legendre and Taylor Nolan each had one block. The boys and girls golf teams both won their Senior Night games on Monday, Sept. 19, at Timber Lakes. There are still games left on their schedule, however this was the last home game for the seniors. Staunton seniors are Luke DeWitt, Luke Meyer, Adam Overby and Emma Tjaden. The 2022 Illinois fall trout fishing season will open Saturday, Oct. 15, at 59 ponds, lakes and streams throughout the state. The Staunton Soccer Club (SSC) expresses their appreciation to Bank of Springfield of Staunton (BoS) for their donation of a back net system at the Staunton soccer fields. Friends of CUSD #5 (FOCUS5), is hosting a golf scramble fundraiser at Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton on Saturday, Oct. 1. This will be a four-person team scramble with registration at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost is $300 per team or $75 per golfer and includes 18 holes, food and cart. Friday, Sept. 9, the Greenville Comets were in Staunton for our third game of the season. The Comets were able to claim their 2nd win of the season when they defeated the Bulldogs 38-14. The Comets took the opening kickoff. They had advanced the ball to a 2nd & goal and ran in for their first TD. Their PAT try failed but they led 6-0 with 8:57 still left in the 1st quarter. 1-0 in conference As of Sept. 9, the Staunton High School girls volleyball team held an impressive 9-4 season record and were 1-0 in conference play. Last weekend, (Sept. 2 & 3) the girls were in a tournament and won three of their four matches. They defeated Metro 2-0 before losing to O'Fallon 0-2, then defeated Glenwood 2-1 and Bloomington 2-0. The Staunton boys' soccer team hit the road this week after the long Labor Day weekend. The team enjoyed the extra day off, but was ready to face a tough Raymond/Lincolnwood team on Tuesday, an up-and-down Lebanon team on Wednesday, and a winless Vandalia team on Thursday to kickoff conference play. The Staunton boys' soccer team would like to thank both El Indio Mexican Restaurant and Ink Forge for their donations to the boys' soccer program. The timing of the donations could not have come at a better time, with the team needing all new away jerseys. Ink Forge worked quickly to order/make the jerseys, and had them ready the very next day.
