The Staunton Terriers were recently crowned champions of the Gillespie Tournament. Staunton opened play on Saturday, Nov. 12, against Southwestern with a 31-19 victory. Cale Dugger and Paxton Brown paced the squad with 10 points each, while Kaiden Linkeman (9 pts.) and Blaine Sievers (2 pts.) rounded out the scoring. The 7th grade Lady Terriers will play Litchfield at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sectional 8 competition at Divernon. The girls won their Regional 16 title by defeating Roxana 35-17 on Nov. 21 and defeating Vandalia 35- 7 on Nov. 22. The Staunton High School trap and skeet teams successfully completed five weeks of competition in the Illinois State High School Clay Target League's 2022 fall season. Twenty-six golf teams gathered at Timber Lakes Golf Course on Sept. 30 for the "Final Round" and celebration of Bob Price's life. The event raised $19,470 for Bob's scholarship fund. Two Illinois State Police trooper buglers were there to play the national anthem prior to tee off.
