    The Staunton girls were scheduled to play the winner of Monday's (Jan. 16) North Mac vs. Mt. Olive game at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the Macoupin County Tournament. North Mac defeated Mt. Olive (64-25) and then the Lady Bulldogs defeated North Mac (59-26). The win on Tuesday put the Lady Bulldogs in the tournament championship game vs. Gillespie to be played Friday, Jan. 20.   • Terriers win Greenville Tournament

    The Terrier 8th grade basketball team traveled to Greenville last week to play in the 74th Annual James Burke Memorial Tournament. The program was looking to win its first game at the event since joining the field four years ago. Not only did the Terriers win a game, but they went 3-0 on the week to capture the title.     In their first game at the Macoupin County Tournament, the Staunton Bulldogs defeated Carlinville (58-40) on Jan. 16. This win advanced the Bulldogs to play Southwestern on Wednesday, Jan. 18.     After competing in the Carlinville Holiday Tournament, the Staunton High School Basketball Bulldogs played the Hiltoppers on Dec.29th. Hillsboro won this game 66 - 41. On January 6th, the Bulldogs traveled to Pana and lost to the Panthers 30 - 56. On Jan. 10th, the Bulldogs returned home to play Civic Memorial. The Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 65 - 47.     The Staunton High School Lady Bulldogs have been on a winning streak as they defeated Maryville Christian (45-28) on Jan. 6, and defeated Auburn (43-29) on Jan. 7. But the most exciting win had to be the 53-52 win over Hillsboro on Jan. 12. Haris Legendre sank a basket from the side during the closing seconds of the game to take a 1-point lead.     After a long break for the holidays, the Staunton Terriers played three games in three days last week, with road contests at Nokomis and Southwestern before welcoming Carlinville. With victories in the latter two games, both Terrier squads would secure conference titles on the year. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, SJHS traveled to Nokomis to take on the Braves.
