Class of 1957 Football Fred Brenzel’s third year as coach of the Bulldogs saw dramatic improvement in the program in 1956. The Bulldogs played .500 football, finishing the year 5-5 overall, including a 3-3 mark in the South Central Conference. The organization funding and running these teams is Staunton High School Trapshooting Club, Inc. The Lady Bulldogs kicked off last week at home on Wednesday May 1. The Lady Dogs faced off with the Lady Cavaliers of Carlinville. The Lady Dogs needed to win this match to help push them towards a 2nd place finish in the SCC. Gillespie High School Cross Country would like to invite Gillespie High School students to join one of their fitness models. The “Multi-Sport Athlete” Model is designed to make you faster and more powerful, while improving endurance in other sports. This model only meets two or three times per week over summer and fall season. It is coordinated and adaptable to other sport schedules. BHHS is proud to have representation on IHSA's Student Advisory Committee! Brennan Fulton was nominated and went through an interview process to get selected for the committee. Sunday he spent the day in Bloomington at the IHSA office with other SAC members from across the state working on different projects and initiatives to help IHSA activities....
The First annual South Central Conference bass tournament at Coffeen Lake. There were 15 teams from seven schools that showed up. First place, Litchfield's Zach Hansel and Riley Ayress with 11.22 pounds. Second place, Staunton's Vercoglio, Fleming, Miersch, and Machota with 9.13 pounds. SCC Women’s Golf League has had a great start to the golf season. Refreshments were enjoyed and received updates prior to teeing off. Sue Stiegemeier and Karen Crosslin had a low gross of 39. Stiegemeier also had a birdie on the second hole. The low net was the team of Deb McNaughton and Kathryn Young with a net of 16. Illinois youth turkey hunters harvested a preliminary total of 2,006 birds during the 2024 youth turkey season, breaking the previous harvest record of 1,733 set in 2020. The dates for this year’s season were March 30 through March 31 and April 6 through April 7. A total of 6,001 youth turkey permits were issued this year, compared to 5,283 in 2023. Class of 1952 Basketball (Boys) The 1951-52 basketball season is considered one of the best in school history, as the squad finished with an outstanding 23-4 record, including 7-1 in the South Central Conference. The 7-1 mark in the SCC was good for a league title for the first time in seventeen years, and the group also captured the championship at Macoupin County Tournament that same season. Class of 1946 Baseball For the first time in history of the school, Staunton played host to a Sectional Tournament in 19446. Unfortunately, SHS did not advance to its own even, as the Bulldogs lost to Benld (6-1) in the District Tournament action Baskeball (Boy) The 1945-46 basketball program had another successful season under head coach B.H.
