The Staunton High School volleyball team hosted a Volley for the Cure game on Thursday, Sept. 28, to raise awareness for ALS in honor of Cheryl Whitten of Hillsboro. Whitten's granddaughter, Kinslee Maedge, is a member of the team, and Whitten can often be found at games cheering on the Lady Bulldogs. The Staunton Varsity Boys High School team went 1 and 2 this week visiting the Hiltoppers at Hillsboro and hosting the North Mac Panthers and Breese Central Cougars for Homecoming. On Tuesday, Sept. 19, the boys traveled to Hillsboro to take on the Hiltoppers. Congratulations to the Bulldogs' Cross Country team for a great weekend at the Edwardsville Invitational. The Gillespie Minor Soccer Association and the Coal Country Sports Complex Foundation have planned their 17th annual Trivia Night and Silent Auction to be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Benld Civic Center. We had a great day for golfing. The course was in wonderful shape. The golfing was not what it usually is; not very good for any of us. The boys finished strong with three wins tonight over Rochester, Lincolnwood and Gillespie. Southern Illinois Dressage Classic was held in DuQuoin on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9 & 10. Avery Donahue, 8 years old, of New Douglas was one of the participants from Brier Bank Equestrian Farm in Marine to compete in Levels A & B Dressage Competitions. During the two day competition, Avery and her horse “Pache” won three first place Blue Ribbons and one 4th place Purple Ribbon. After competing in a neutral tournament the first week-end of September, the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team had a record of 7-3.
