Thursday, February 8 , 1923 -- VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZED -- At a meeting of those interested in the organization of a volunteer fire department in our city, held Friday evening, the first steps toward perfecting an organization were taken. Dr. C.P. Stuttle was elected president and Harry R. Kuenen secretary. A by-law committee comprised of H.O. Panhorst, Anthony Safko and Paul D. Issue of July 29, 1998 Wareco started extensive renovations including new gas tanks, islands and pumps. Six vehicles were vandalized at Tri Ford in Staunton on July 22. Equipment was also stolen. After studying the alternatives, it was decided in October, 1925 to build a dam on the Cahokia-East Fork site as recommended by Illinois State Department of Health. One of the worst was in 1953-54, when much of the Midwest was parched amid one of the most brutal heat waves on record. Rainfall in some areas in 1953 was as much as sixteen inches below normal. Winford Earl Boulch died June 9, 2023, in Portland, Ore., one day before he turned 91. Win was born June 10, 1932, to James and Lura Boulch in the township of Good Water, Mo. He married his wife, Vivian, on Jan. 5, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives. His family moved to a farm in New Douglas, Ill., where he graduated from high school. He enjoyed returning to class reunions and visiting with classmates throughout the years.
