On Saturday, March 2, 2024 it was announced on the Miss Mount Olive Pageant’s Facebook page that the official release date for their tenth Anniversary pageant will be April 1. Miss Mt. Olive Pageant is open to Mt. Olive, Staunton and Gillespie School Districts. This morning the Illinois Principals Association hosted the 28th Annual Student Recognition Breakfast at Greenville University. The Mt. Olive Public Library and Board of Trustees are providing an outside wall-mounted Narcan box as a way to mitigate the harm of opioid overdose and integrate recovery resources in our safe space and community. Lindsey Minor, of St. Francis Way Clinic and Macoupin County Health Department provided the box, the narcan nasal spray, and testing strips for fentanyl and xylazine. On Saturday, April 6, the Zion Lutheran Youth Group will be hosting a trivia night at the Staunton Country Club. Doors open at 6 p.m. and trivia begins at 7 p.m. Tables of 8-10 are welcome for the price of $15 per person. The 2023-2024 Illinois bobcat season concluded Feb. 15 with 370 bobcats harvested by hunters and trappers. A total of 214 (55%) of bobcats were taken by hunting, while trapping accounted for 156 (40%) of the harvest. Nineteen (5%) were salvaged by permit holders from circumstances such as roadkill. Hunters and trappers in Jo Daviess County reported 19 bobcats – the most for any county this year. There were 7,000 bobcat lottery applicants in 2023 and 1,000 permits issued for the season.
