On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Illinois state Rep. LaShawn K. Ford (D-Chicago) introduced legislation which would require any law enforcement agency within the state of Illinois, to lawfully encrypt police scanner transmissions to provide real time access to those transmissions to accredited media in the state. The Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024 senior citizens meeting was called to order by President, Geri Cook at 1 p.m. With 21 people in attendance, The Lord's Prayer and pledge of allegiance were recited. Staunton's senior citizens welcomed Rick Henry as he became a new member. It was also announced that former member Bernice Stiegemeier, 97, had passed away. University of Illinois Extension of Macoupin County will be offering the state mandated Certified Food Protection Managers class and exam. The Illinois Department of Public Health Food Sanitation Code (section 750.540) requires food service establishments to be under the operational supervision of a certified food protection manager during hours of operation.
