    The Dec. 15 meeting of the Staunton Senior Citizens started at 1 p.m. with the president Gerry Cook bringing it to order. There were 24 members attending. The Lord's Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance were said. The attendance prizes were won by Gerry Cook and Cheryl Moore. Pots of silver went to Elsie Guarienti and Gaylene Ocepek. The members sang Happy Birthday to the four birthday members for December.     The Staunton High School Business Club recently heard from Ryan Hickman, founder of Ryan's Recycling out of California. Hickman, now a teenager, started his business when he was just 3 years old. Due to Ryan being in school, the students were unable to connect together through a live video feed. However, Ryan welcomed questions via email and then sent a video to the club with his responses.     The Staunton High School girls basketball team defeated Vandalia 66-35 on Dec. 12. On Dec. 14, the girls traveled to South Fork and were able to win there 48-41. On Dec. 17, the girls returned home to play Porta/Ashland (Petersburg).They lost this one 34-40 bringing their season record to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.     The Staunton Terriers swept two non-conference games last week, as both the 7th and 8th grade squads defeated Litchfield and Greenville. On Monday, Dec. 12, SJHS welcomed Litchfield to Staunton. The 8th grade Terriers shot out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter and eventually won the game 56-19. Staunton made eight 3-pointers on the night, with Isiah Laux (12 pts.) notching half of them.     Macoupin County has been issued a tentative property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue.     By Tom Emery Once again, SamJam has been deemed a success. The 2022 SamJam Music & Brewfest, which was held on Sept. 24 at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds, generated a donation of $8,000 to Neurofibromatosis (NF) Midwest. The event was created in 2014 in honor of Sam Oswald, a Carlinville resident who has battled NF since being diagnosed at age 4. NF is a debilitating condition that affects 1 in every 2,500 worldwide. The 33rd Illinois Infantry, which originated at Illinois State University in Normal, was famously known as the "Teacher's Regiment" since a high number of the men were students.
